'BOUNCE' DROPS SHOOTING AS DIRECTOR STRICKEN

'The Big Bounce' - a big-budget film based on the Elmore novel of the same name - has suspended its Oahu, Hawaii shoot after director George Armitage was struck by an intestinal ailment.

The flick stars Owen Wilson and Morgan Freeman - and does not feature Anna Nicole Smith, despite the title.

Armitage has decided to travel to Los Angeles to seek medical treatment from his personal physician. The illness will not require surgery, an official on the Warner Bros. production said. He is expected to resume his directorial duties.

'The Big Bounce', which has been filming since late October, was scheduled to complete filming Dec. 31 with a day off for Christmas. The wrap date is now Jan. 6, a production official said. It is slotted for a US release in September 2003.

'The Big Bounce', based on a crime novel by Elmore Leonard, also stars Sara Foster and Gary Sinise.

The plot revolves around Jack Ryan who has a man's fists, and the cunning of an ex-con. Nancy Hayes has a woman's sleek moves and the instincts of a shark.

Now, in a Michigan resort town, a rich man wants Jack gone and Nancy for himself. For Ryan the choice is clear: Nancy's promises of pleasure, her crazy, thrill-seeking schemes of breaking into homes, shooting guns and maybe stealing a whole lot of money are driving him half mad.

But there's one thing Ryan doesn't know yet: his new playmate is planning the deadliest thrill of all. Razor sharp and wholly unpredictable, the Big Bounce is an Elmore Leonard classic - a sly, beguiling story of a man, a woman and a nasty little crime.

"God I'm so bored being good. I am not leaving this set till you let me play evil."
