The $7
million indie project begins production in Romania next
July and is described as 'Day for Night' meets
'Basic Instinct'.
It follows a celebrity actress (Hurley)
who gets her dream role playing real-life 19th century
serial killer Belle Gunness in a feature film and
starts to take on the characteristics of the role
onscreen and off.
The infamous Gunness case began in the early morning of April 28, 1908, a farm house on the outskirts of La Porte, Indiana burned to the ground. The home, located on McClung Rd., belonged to Belle Gunness who had lived in La Porte since 1901. Later that day, while workers sifted through the ruins, four bodies were discovered - one adult female and three young children.
At first these bodies were believed to be those of Belle Gunness and her three children Myrtle (age 11), Lucy (age 9), and Phillip (age 5). It was soon noted, however, that the family's piano, which had been located in the parlor on the first floor of the home, had been discovered on top of the bodies. This would have been impossible had the victims been in bed, on the second floor, at the time of the fire which occurred at approximately 4 a.m.
It quickly became evident that the four victims had been killed and their bodies placed in the basement before the fire, which had probably been set to cover up the crime.
Hurley most recently starred onscreen in Paramount Pictures' 'Serving Sara'. Her credits include 'Bedazzled' and 'Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me'.
British director Duncan Roy will shoot from a script by Katie Fetting. Roy wrote, directed and executive produced the indie feature 'AKA'. The film was nominated for a BAFTA Award for best first feature this year and won the audience award at the Outfest Film Festival in October.
