LATIFAH WED TO 'GANGSTER' RAP A KOREAN REMAKE

Queen Latifah, who co-starred in the recent box office hit 'Bringing Down the House', is nearing a deal to star in Miramax Films' remake of the South Korean action-comedy 'My Wife Is a Gangster'.

No director is on board, but the studio hopes to be in production by first quarter next year.

The rapper-actress (real name: Dana Owens) previously collaborated with Miramax in the musical feature 'Chicago', for which she earned a supporting actress Oscar nomination this year.

Adapted by Marc Klein, 'Gangster' is about a female mob boss (Queen Latifah) who gets married to please her dying sister. She chooses a poor, unsuspecting dupe who has no idea what he's getting into in the hopes that he won't ask too many questions. However, he starts to wise up, and she starts to fall in love.

Queen Latifah will serve as an executive producer. She is also developing another Korean remake titled 'No Blood No Tears', a female action comedy in the vein of 'Thelma & Louise' and 'The Sting'. It follows two downtrodden women who decide to pull a con to scam money from their male oppressors.

She next shoots a cameo role in MGM's 'Barbershop 2' to help establish her own potential franchise in the studio's 'Beauty Shop'. She will release a new album, 'First Love', in the summer.

"Bling Bling... that's Korean right?"
