Murphy plans to sing in both films, something the actress has long aspired to do and nearly accomplished when she was cast as Janis Joplin in the biopic 'Piece of My Heart', which never came to fruition. She has of course, sang as the hilarious Luanne in the 'King Of The Hill'.
'Major' is pitched as 'Legally Blonde' in combat boots. It follows a pop singer who desperately wants to star in a major studio's military movie. In an attempt to prove she can play the part, the singer enlists in the Army. Of course, this bears no resemblance whatsoever to the Goldie Hawke vehicle 'Private Benjamin'.
No director has yet been drafted, but the hope is that it will be Murphy's follow-up feature to 'Little Black Book', which begins shooting in August.
'Feet', a CGI-animated project with musical elements, revolves around Mumble, a young penguin (voiced by Elijah Wood ) and his adventures in Antarctica. Murphy will play Mumble's love interest, Gloria, who bursts into song.
The animation will be done in Australia, with director George Miller expected to deliver a print in late 2005. A release date will be set after that time.
Murphy next stars in MGM's 'Uptown Girls' with Dakota Fanning.
