SCORSESE FLIES IN A COUPLE OF KATES FOR THE AVIATOR

Martin Scorsese is continuing to line up co-stars for Leonardo DiCaprio in the Howard Hughes biopic 'Aviator', enlisting Cate Blanchett, Kate Beckinsale and singer Gwen Stefani to join the cast.

The project is set to start shooting next month in Montreal. It centers on the life of billionaire (and all-round weirdo) Howard Hughes played by DiCaprio.

Among the actors who are close to finalizing deals to join the cast, Blanchett will star as Katharine Hepburn, and Beckinsale as Ava Gardner.

Stefani is making her feature film debut in the project, and will be depicting 1930's blonde sex-bomb Jean Harlow.

Adam Scott would play Hughes' press agent, Johnny Meyer, and Kelli Garner is in line to portray Faith Domergue, a young actress who was discovered by Hughes.

Barry Pepper, who was on board to portray engineer Glenn Odekirk, has dropped out because of scheduling conflicts with his current project, 'Ripley Under Ground'. Pepper's part is expected to be filled within several weeks, with casting sessions scheduled for week's end.

IEG, which is taking the lead on the John Logan-penned production, declined comment on the talent deals Tuesday. Miramax and Warner Bros. are partnering on the domestic release, with IEG handling foreign territories.

Blanchett is currently shooting Revolution Studios' 'The Missing'. Upcoming projects include Buena Vista Pictures' 'Veronica Guerin' and New Line Cinema's 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King'.

Beckinsale next stars in Screen Gems' 'Underworld' and Universal Pictures' 'Van Helsing'. Scott next stars in Warner Bros'. 'Torque' and the indie film 'Two Days'.

Garner's credits include 'Bully' and the upcoming 'Love Liza'. She also just signed on to do 'Thumbsucker' for director Mike Mills alongside Keanu Reeves and Tilda Swinton.

"I really want to play Audrey Hepburn, but... whatever."
