It's
the true story of a man who conned his way into London's
high life by pretending to be reclusive director American
Stanley Kubrick.
The script was written by the late director's long-time
personal assistant, Anthony Frewin. Brian Cook, a
Kubrick crew member on 'Eyes Wide Shut' will direct
the low-budget $1.1 million feature, which is being
backed by Hamburg's film board.
Billed as a 'cinema verite laffer', 'Colour Me Kubrick'
is based on real-life events during the shooting of
'Eyes Wide Shut' in London in 1998-1999 when a man
pretending to be the legendary director got into many
of the city's most exclusive parties, restaurants
and night clubs.
He successfully played on his willing victims' star-struck
gullibility despite bearing no resemblance to Kubrick.
Malkovich recently made his feature directing debut
with 'The Dancer Upstairs', a crime thriller in which
he co-starred with Javier Bardem.
In an ironic piece of casting, Malkovich was himself
the plot of a movie which posited the conceit of a
man who actually had access to Malkovich's brain.
