While no deal is yet in place for the actor, the film's producer, Revolution Studios, has hired "Toy Story" scribes Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow to write a script. In the sequel, Murphy's character would be put in charge of a summer day camp.
Originally set up at 20th Century Fox, "Daddy Day Care" was picked up in turnaround by Revolution, which is based at Sony. It grossed $101 million domestically, a return to form for Murphy after he last year starred in three flops -- "I Spy," "The Adventures of Pluto Nash" and "Showtime."
"'Daddy Day Care' was a good idea, a great title and showed Eddie's track record with family movies such as 'Dr. Dolittle', 'The Nutty Professor' and 'Shrek,"' Revolution founder Joe Roth said.
All three films have spawned sequels -- "Dr. Dolittle 2," "Nutty Professor II: The Klumps" and the summer 2004 release "Shrek 2".
