| BANDERAS,
ZETA-JONES, HOPKINS MASK UP MORE 'ZORRO'? |
| Everyone's
favourite masked crime-fighting man is due for a return
to the big screen. |
And it's not Batman, Spiderman or Superman either. Get
ready for the second mark of Zorro!
Antonio Banderas is in talks with Sony to reprise his role as the swashbuckling swordsman who wears a mask like no other in 'The Mask of Zorro'.
The Spanish thesp recently appeared in the box-office success 'Once Upon a Time in Mexico' alongside Johnny Depp. He is also fresh off a star turn in the Broadway musical Nine, for which he received a Tony nomination.
Catherine Zeta-Jones is also planning a return to the franchise that launched her career. Mrs. Michael Douglas , an Oscar winner for Chicago, is currently appearing in the box-office under-whelmer 'Intolerable Cruelty' opposite George Clooney.
Anthony Hopkins is also considered a good bet for a repeat performance in 'Zorro 2', according to Daily Variety. Columbia Pictures confirmed that the sequel is in the pipeline but would only confirm that the principals were "in discussions" to return.
The script for 'Zorro 2' comes from Alias executive producers Roberto Orsi and Alex Kurtzman, and was reportedly strong enough to galvanize the studio into moving towards a production start.
Veteran director Martin Cambell will return to helm the sword-swinging sequel. His most recent film, 'Beyond Borders', starring Angelina Jolie , was just released in theaters to middling reviews and worse box office.
The studio expects to kick off production on Zorro 2 in spring 2004.
