| TO DIET FOR... HBO HOT FOR KILLER 'MRS. HARRIS' |
|
TV movie people HBO has come on board to finance "Mrs. Harris". The indie project is set to star Annette Bening as the infamous "Scarsdale Diet" murderess Jean Harris.
|
In 1980, Harris, the headmistress of an exclusive all-female
boarding high school, killed her boyfriend, Dr. Herman
Tarnower the inventor of the Scarsdale diet.
She claimed it was an attempt to shoot herself. Tarnower
is to be played by Brit thesp Ben Kingsley.
Playwright Phyllis Nagy ("The Talented Mr. Ripley")
will direct the Killer Films project from her own script.
The story of Jean Harris was previously taken to the
screen by NBC way back when in 1981, with Ellen Burstyn
portraying the convicted killer in "The People vs. Jean
Harris".
Bening has been nominated twice for an Oscar, most recently
for "American Beauty" in 2000. She most recently starred
in Kevin Costner 's Western "Open Range".
Kingsley won an Oscar in 1983 for the title role in
"Gandhi." He stars opposite Jennifer Connelly in the
critically praised drama "House of Sand and Fog."
