ORIGINAL
1977 MOVIE OUTLINE
Manager Dick Harper and his attractive young wife Jane
are used to a comfortable lifestyle. They just build
a swimming-pool when Dick is fired very unexpectedly
- leaving him with a huge debt on the house. They try
to hide this from the neighbors and just cut down their
expenses, but soon it's obvious: living from unemployment
bonus drives them crazy, it's uncertain if they can
keep the house. Dick doesn't see another way out than
KNOCKING OVER drug stores - but this takes more skill
than expected! Only as a team Dick and Jane can succeed.

This
was a so-so 70s movie about a pair of pre-Yuppies who
want to maintain their middle-class lifestyle by robbing
others. Since then we've had the reality of real violent
crime broadcast on a 24 hour basis. That's people robbed
and murdered for the price of a cigarette. Do you think,
that's going to say "fun" for middle America?
Even with Carrey in it. He earns $25 mil a movie, Diaz
has to be picking up double digits. So this movie is
at least $35 mil in the hole before a frame is shot.
Who knows?
SIDEBAR
Of course, the rich Hollywood people who are making
this movie have the dosh to insulate themselves against
random acts of violence - armed guards, swish limos,
fortress like homes. Great eh? |
