Sweeping
epic charting the early years of the Civil War and how
the campaigns unfolded from Manassas to the Battle of
Fredericksburg, this prequel to the film Gettysburg
explores the motivations of the combatants and examines
the lives of those who waited at home.
This
looks like the sort of old-fashioned epic movie that
hardly ever gets made these days. That means there's
probably none of the post-Vietnam cynicism and corrosion
of patriotism that has marked war movies in the 1980-90s.
Black Hawk Down has changed that barren Oliver Stone
landscape with an unabashed return to simpler values
such as honour, courage and self-sacrifice. Still...
can't see it really burning up the Box Ofice though
it is part of a trend for Civil War inspired movies
in the US this year.
